Lot 766 Brown Mfg. Co. "Southerner" .41 RF SN: 864

Brown single-shot Derringer, .41 Short cartridge. 2 1/2" octagonal barrel pivots sideways to load, nickel finish, rosewood grips, small blade sight. Overall length 5". Extractor mounted under barrel at breech. Made from 1869 to 1873 with about 10,000 manufactured. Marked "SOUTHERNER" on the top flat of the barrel "BROWN MF'G Co./ NEWBURYPORT. MASS. / PAT APR.9, 1857" on the left side. The bore is fair, good rifling, scattered light pin-prick pitting, nickel finish is about 70% with some flaking, handling wear and some spots of dark patina, the grips are overall good with a small chip out of the right lower panel. The action is sound, barrel locks-up tight and the markings are a little feint but readable. Matching serial number on heel and stamped on inside of left grip panel.
